Stopping up of old Dunmowe Way and  part of Windmill Lane

Carter Homes are progressing with the redevelopment of the Windmill Estate. In order to complete the next section we need to close the road and footpath on the old Dunmowe Way and a portion of the private area of Windmill Lane. This process is called a stopping up order.

Why do we need to close the road?

As a part of the redevelopment of the estate we have built a new road which is called Dunmowe Way. This has been done because we will be constructing new houses in the area of the old Dunmowe Way. By changing the road layout we will improve the Windmill Estate and we will be able to build more affordable homes. This is also in line with plans approved by the council.

We need to close the old Dunmowe Way and part of Windmill Lane in October 2011 in order to progress with works in this section of the site.

How will you be able to get around the estate?

Pedestrians
As you can see on the traffic plan, Carter Homes will provide designated footpaths and temporary pedestrian crossings. Pedestrians will be able to walk along a new Dunmowe Way (connecting Chaplins Close with Windmill Lane). We advise you to use a route marked in blue along Farmer’s Row on the traffic management plan included below. This will help to avoid any contact with the construction traffic.

Vehicles
You will be able to access Windmill Lane through a designated route marked in yellow along a new Dunmowe Way which connects Windmill Lane with Chaplins Close. Access to Oslar’s Way will be through The Croft and Caraway Road.
We will introduce traffic calming measures such as 5 mph speed limit and temporary speed humps. This is to ensure safety of road users while we conduct construction works.

If you have any questions about the closing of the road and access routes or would like to report anything else please contact Colin Knights, Contract manager at our site office at 7 Farmers Row.

September 2011

Work on the site is progressing well with the second part of the redevelopment being ahead of schedule. The stopping up order which is in place now will allow us to finalise work on the first phase and allow traffic to access nearby properties through Dunmowe Way.

In the meantime our team participated in Fun Day organised on 24 August 2011 for children from local school. Accent Nene together with Carter Homes, Residents’ Panel and local PCSOs have hosted the even on the Fulbourn recreational ground. The day was filled with games and sport activities where teams led by Ryan Scott, Assistant contract manager, and Jack Favell, Contract technician, were fiercely competing against each other.

Getting ready for the big works

In the next three months the Windmill Estate will be getting ready for phase 2a of the redevelopment when we will construct 59 homes for the Fulbourn community.

Our next steps from November to January will include:

  • Asbestos survey and controlled removal
  • Removal of fascia and soffits to prevent wildlife nesting. The Windmill Estate is populated with bats and swifts so we need to make sure that all wildlife is protected while we carry out our works.
  • Relocation and introduction of new boxes for swifts and bats which will protect the wildlife during the construction work on the estate. After the work is completed we will encourage birds and bats to come back to their initial habitats.
  • Site surveys
  • Preparation and the setup of our site offices
  • Setting up of Resident’s Liaison Office

We will hold an open evening for the residents before the construction work starts in February 2011.
